The Best Tom Yum Flavour Cup Noodles - A Hungry Guppies Shoot-out
We hungry guppies being hungry and busy all the time often turn to instant noodles for comfort and sustenance. Since we take instant noodles so often, we decided to have a Hungry Guppies Shootout for Tom Yum Flavoured cup noodles - comparing at one sitting different brands of tom yum cup noodles . For this Shootout, we have Tom Yum flavoured cup noodels from Koka, Nissin, Myojo, Super, Fair Price and First Choice (clockwise from top).

Look at how excited we all are over the noodles!!!

I was quite a fan of cup noodles, especially during my school days (not so much now). Cup noodles can always cheer me up during project peak period. Even though I ate cup noodles so often back then, I never thought of comparing them to see which was the best! I just thought that every brand tastes the same! But I never ever have this thought after today. After trying various brands of tom yum cup noodles at one go, it was clear to me that not all instant noodles tastes the same. There are differences, obvious differences, and I really mean it. Super brand disappoints a lot, wiping guppy smiles off my face. The soup does not taste like tom yum at all, if I had not read the label, I wouldn’t even know that’s tom yum flavoured! On the other hand, Myojo tom yum cup noodles totally got my tastebuds hooked to it. The spicy red soup brought about the best tom yum taste amongst all. I do not care so much about the noodles though. So if you want me to compare the soup base, Myojo has my loyal vote.

What other guppies say:
Dabao Guppy’s vote: MYOJO Tom Yum Cup Noodles

…
“The soup is spicy enough and the noodles are springy!!!”
Health Freak Guppy’s vote: MYOJO Tom Yum Cup Noodles

…
“I decided to brave the elevated salt levels and try the noodles. The results are obvious. Myojo, with its tangy tom yam paste base, wins fins down. The rest of the noodles pale in comparison, with Super brand being the worst, and wasting my calorie and salt quota for the day. Koka was supposed to be good, but once you taste Myojo, the rest takes a backseat.”
Papa Guppy’s vote: MYOJO Tom Yum Cup Noodles

“Instant noodles is really really unhealthy. It has all the bad stuff (empty calories and high sodium ) and very little of any good stuff. But every time I have them, it reminds me of my undergraduate days mugging away for exams and having instant noodles as a comfort food. Like always, if it is unhealthy, I better make sure it taste good! On that count, it is clearly the Myojo Tom Yum cup noodles that’s the best of the six, the soup has the right level of spicy hot and sour balance and a full enough flavourful body. The biggest disappointment for me was the super brand tom yum noodles, it really wasn’t that super duper for me.”
Angel Guppy’s vote: NISSIN Tom Yum Cup Noodles

…
“Nissin cup noodles has lots of ingredients which doesn’t make it look too bland. Also, the noodles are springy and the soup is sour enough to make it taste like Tom Yum!”
…
Sweet-toothed Guppy’s vote: NISSIN Tom Yum Cup Noodles

…
“It’s a tough fight between the 2 brands, Nissin and Koka. But ultimately, after much deliberation and amidst mouthfuls of noodles…(drums roll) I chose Nissin. Koka is a little too flavourful for me. Nissin managed to strike the right balance for this guppy. The soup base is not too sour or spicy and the noodles do not have a powdery texture. Nissin also provides more ingredients which adds a touch meticulous pampering that I do appreciate. For the rest of the brands, I guess they are good enough to satisfy my hunger pangs. One brand I probably won’t buy would be Super. simply put It is just too bland and despite several more mouthfuls, I still can’t discern that the noodles I am consuming is actually Tom Yum flavoured.”
Sommelier Guppy’s Vote: KOKA Tom Yum Cup Noodles

…
“I think Koka and Myojo are both good. Both get 4 guppies but if I can only have 1 choice, I think Koka is preferred as the noodles is not fried.”
